Brain Coral

Title: Brain CoralDescription: Nylon, fuse wire Dimensions: W190mmxL230mmH125mm Date made: January 2012The work is inspired by a skeletal brain coral in the collection of Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery. The piece is made from nylon a derivative of the oil which comes from plankton deposits. Plankton would have been the food of the coral as it reached out into the ocean to acquire more food and advance it’s territory. The stinging tentacles are represented by electrical fuse wire. The coral is similar to the human brain and alludes to the work of Charles Darwin and modern scientists furthering knowledge of the human brain.
